Nasoni and Kevin wrote these accounts of the opening match
The rugby world cup started on the 9th of September 2011 at Eden park in New Zealand. the first match was Tonga vs NZ. The All Blacks played for New Zealand. It was fun.

On the 9th of September I saw the Rugby world cup 2011. the All Blacks won by a lot. The All Blacks scored 41, and Tonga had 10. WOW!!!, New Zealand definitely won. I never knew that could happen!!!! I liked how they scored their points.
by Kevin
Leilani also wrote her thoughts before the World Cup started
There is a rugby world cup every four years. This year it is 2011. There are 20 countries in the world cup this year - Argentina, France, Namibia, Scotland, Australia, Georgia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, Ireland, Romania, Tonga, England, Italy, Russia, USA, Fiji, Japan, Samoa and Wales.
My Dad has lots of flags. He says that he is going to put them at the front of the house. There are HUGE games in small parts of New Zealand.
My Dad and brother really want to see some games.

I don't!!!
The Rugby World Cup - this account of the World Cup was written before the opening last week by Shivaansh
On Friday the whole world will be watching the opening ceremony of the rugby world cup. The main partners are Emirates, ANZ, Mastercard and Toshiba. There are going to be 20 teams, 48 games, 4 pools and one winning team.
Lucky me! My family and I are going to Fiji vs Samoa at Eden Park. I am going to support New Zealand and Fiji because my family comes from Fiji, and Indo-Fiji is my background, but I’m a Kiwi so go All Blacks! At school I have been given team ‘Ireland’. When I told my Dad he said, “Ireland is ranked 19th best team.”
Lots of people are travelling to New Zealand for the games. There is a cool website for buying tickets and learning about the teams. I love the new way of ending the International Olympics. I mostly loved the Commonwealth Games Ending Ceremony in New Delhi, India.
I hope we win. Here is a secret between you and me, the next rugby world cup games will be held in England and then Japan.

Palmy wrote an acrostic poem about a Blue Whale
Blue Whales are mammals that live in the sea
Lovely mammals swimming in the sea
Under water looking at the fish
Eating krill for lunch
Wonderful whales singing in the sea
Having fun playing with some fish
Always eating krill for lunch
Living underwater to survive
Eating krill for lunch and tea

Cinquain Poems
We have been looking at different ways of writing poems. This poem was written using a cinquain plan found on Kathryn Apel's website. First we had to think of an animal to write about. Then we had to think of some other words for this animal. Next we had to think of some adjectives to describe the animal, and some verbs ending with 'ing' connected with the animal. Finally we had to write a short phrase (a group of words) to do with the animal. This formed our plan - here is Kevin's plan.
We then had to make a rough draft using the best words from our plan. It had to include two of the adjectives, three of the verbs, the phrase and finally one the other words for our animal.
The end poem was then typed out. Here is the final version of Kevin's first attempt at a cinquain poem. We will add some more soon.

Kiwiana
Kiwiana things are all over New Zealand. Do you know what Kiwiana things are? They are animals, objects and food. Can you guess what my favourite Kiwiana thing is? It is a kiwi. There are lots of Kiwiana things like gumboots, jandals, L&P and pavlova. A pohutukawa tree is the New Zealand Christmas tree. My favourite ice cream is hokey pokey. I love living in New Zealand. Written by Leilani
Kiwiana can be anything like jandals. Let’s talk about a bird called a kiwi first. You can only find a kiwi in New Zealand that is why a kiwi is called Kiwiana. Now we are going to talk about a kiwifruit – it is found in New Zealand.
Third we are going to teach you about a drink called L&P. L&P is absolutely Kiwiana because L&P is made in New Zealand and found in New Zealand only.
Fourth we are going to teach you guys about something called a hokey pokey ice cream. I know heaps of people like to eat hokey pokey ice cream. It is a New Zealand ice cream, that is why hokey pokey ice cream is Kiwiana.
Buzzy bees are the thing we are going to talk about now. Buzzy bees are a New Zealand kind of toy. That’s why it’s Kiwiana.
The last thing we are going to talk about are jandals. Jandals are Kiwiana because in England people call them flip flops.
Written by Nancy
Have you had Pavlova and L&P? If you haven’t, then find it in the shops because it is so yummy.
Do you have jandals and gumboots at home? You should get a pair because jandals and gumboots are Kiwiana.
Do you know the All Blacks. Have you gone to the stadium, or were you at home watching it?

The buzzy bee was invented in the 1940’s, even Prince William has one.
L&P is a famous drink around NZ, it has lemon. It was made in a place by Tauranga called Paeroa.
Pavlova is like a foamy, creamy cake with strawberries and sometimes kiwifruit.
Jandals are special summer footwear with two rubber things that are curved around.
Jet boats are water rides. Then the last, the pohutukawa tree is NZ’s red Christmas tree.

We read some of our favourite stories. This was our very first time and we were a bit nervous. Palmy was behind the camera filming us.
A few weeks ago we hadn't even heard Thanh Truc speak as she tried to learn some English. Now she is reading her own story on camera!
Farhaan is really proud of the story he wrote. We are proud of the way he read it!
Stanley chose his best story to read for you!
This is Nikhil's favourite story.
