Great work on the last question. Now for the next one!! Yesterday there were 146 caterpillars on the swan plant. Today there are only 89. How many turned into cocoons overnight?

I used a number line to solve this problem. First I 146-40=106-40=66-6=60-3=77. The answer is 77.

First we tookaway 46 from 146 and then we had 100. 100 takeaway 11 is 89. 46 plus 11 is 57. So we think the answer is 57. Is it?
I think it is 57 because I took away 40, that would equal 106. 106 takeaway 40 equals 66, takeaway 9 and it is 57.
Excellent working out all of you. Shivaansh, you have made one slight mistake at the end of your workings! See if you can spot it!
I think it is 57 because 146 - 9 = 137.137 - 80 = 57. The answer is fifty - Seven
146 takeaway 80 equals 66 and takeaway 9 more is 57.

I checked it the problem and this is how I checked again.
146-40=106-40=66-6=60-3=57
